It's time for me to tell you about the ring I wear.
This is what my momma's ring looked like:
I know you can't tell from this picture, but
does some part of her ring look familiar?
Part of her ring is in my ring.
The center diamond of her ring is the center diamond of my ring.
This is what the center diamond looks like:
I know what that diamond looks like, because I spent 19 years looking at it on her finger.
I saw it sparkling when she made me peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the morning.
She let me adjust her ring when it was off to the side.
She let me try it on when I was a little girl dreaming about being a grown-up, and playing mommy and house for real.
It symbolized the love and trust that she shared with Ross, and the family they created together.

And now I get to wear it. It symbolizes the love and trust that I share with Sam, and the family we'll create together.
It will sparkle when I make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the morning.
I get to wear it when I play mommy and house, but for real this time.
Maybe I'll even have a little girl who likes to fix my ring when it tilts off to one side.
To my mother, the greatest angel I have ever known:
I love you.
Thank you for the legacy.
Happy Mother's Day.
That is so wonderful. It is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot. I'd made it almost through the whole day without crying. But that was so beautiful...
ReplyDeleteTee hee...my secret code word is chaste!
That's so awesome. Gorgeous! (You, your momma, and your ring.) :)
ReplyDeleteI just can't wait to see it in person! Rachel loves my ring too, but the other day she told me, "Mom, your diamonds are so tiny I can barely see them!". Come on, we were poor!
ReplyDeleteYou mom looks so pretty in that picture. I have the one of her and me at her wedding on my bookshelf and she looks just beautiful in it.
Wow Brooke, what a special idea. That's so great that you can have a piece of her ring with you, reminding you of all the things she did. That's really neat. Sounds like you have an amazing mom.
ReplyDeleteMy center stone is from the diamond necklace my dad bought my mom when I was born. I've never heard of anyone else having their mom's diamond as a part of their ring! Isn't it so special?
