Silver Lining: of epic proportions

of epic proportions

I just got back from spending the last few days at Girl's Camp. It was dirty and exhausting, but so fun. The 12- and 13-year olds I work with are the sweetest, most conscientious girls in the world. The funniest part was when we were hiking. We took a break to observe nature and write our feelings, but the poor girls were being attacked by bugs nonstop, so finally they say "we're really glad you took us up here, but we're having a hard time feeling at one with nature right now," as they duck out of the way of divebombing giant flies and try not to scream. Amen, sistas! Those bugs were of epic proportions, and ridiculously aggressive. We felt at one with nature back in our cabin looking out the window instead :)

Here are a few other things I've been up to lately:

 being outside

 summer weddings

with the fam // outdoor theaters and tie tying practice

And now I'm back and into what feels like my last few weeks of summer (AH! Don't say that!). I went back to my classroom for the first time, and I didn't dread it like I thought I would. I was getting excited while making to-do lists and measuring bulletin boards and thinking about new units. I'm still passionate about my work, and it's good to know if summer has to end, it's to go back to doing something I love.

PS Loved the comments from this last post. You guys are awesome, and I loved everyone's different point of view. I'm going to be more brave about it from now on :)

  1. SO JEALOUS that you got to go to girls camp. It's basically my life's mission to have a calling in young womens so I can go again! I bet you're probably exhausted, being up late and camping all day always took so much out of me every year

  2. I love girls camp, I was a YCL for an extra 2 years when I wasn't even a young women anymore. Once I got married, I wanted to be in the young womens, but instead my husband signed me up to be a sub for primary and well ended up being in the primary. Makes me not want ot have kids right away thats for sure. I did get the opportunity to go to girls camp in my ward, but it's the same week as my finals. Maybe it's just not my time to be in the young womens right now. But I enjoy reading your entry.

    1. It's the opposite for me! I loved being in the Primary so much, and young womens was a new experience for me. But it's definitely growing on me :)

That is so awesome that you got to help with girl's camp! The past few years I have been thinking about helping out at 4-H Horse camp.. but am having troubles with the being away from my family part. But I know it would be well worth it! I love the photos, looks like you have been having a ton of fun!

  8. I just got back from camp too! It was a long week, but the girls had a great time. I'm with you, Primary was my favorite and YW has been quite an adjustment. I do love the girls though. Have a good last few weeks of summer.
