I love the fourth of July. I mean, fireworks, hot summer nights, swimming pools, and did I mention I teach 5th grade US History, so Independence Day is kind of my thing? The great thing about these dessert kabobs, besides being especially festive for the holiday, is that they're easy to make, and can be made in practically any combination you want. AKA no rules, and impossible to mess up. Here's what you'll need:
skewers
strawberries
blueberries
raspberries
blackberries
mini marshmallows
angel food cake
chocolate chips (I chose semi-sweet)
Wash all the fruit and cut the strawberries and angel food cake into bite-sized pieces. Then, take a skewer (no need to soak since you're not grilling them), and start stacking your favorite flavors. Make a red, white and blue pattern, or make a skewer full of all your favorites! Drizzle with melted chocolate for a fancy final touch.
We brought these to a little get-together with Sam's grandparents last night (we seriously lucked out on grandparents, on both sides of our family), but they'd also be great at a barbecue or 4th of July block party. The recipe makes a lot, and it's cheap too.
What would be on your kebab?
Next time, I'm adding brownie bits!
